Club River Plate, mostly known as River Plate or internationally as River Plate Asunción, is a Paraguayan football club from the neighbourhood of Mburicaó, in Asunción; founded in 1911. The club has been playing in the lower divisions of the Paraguayan league for several decades and their most notable achievements are the three second-place finish achieved when they were playing in the Paraguayan Primera División. It currently plays in the Primera División B Metropolitana, one of the three third-division leagues in the Paraguayan football league system.
History
In 2015, River Plate were crowned champions on the División Intermedia and were promoted to the Primera División Paraguaya for the 2016 season.
River Plate Asunción er en paraguayansk fodboldklub hjemmehørende i bydelen Barrio Mburicao i Asunción. Klubben blev grundlagt den 15. august 1911 og spiller sine hjemmekampe på Estadio Jardines del Kelito.
River Plate Asunción har vundet det paraguayanske mesterskab én gang, i 1953. Klubben har også vundet den paraguayanske pokalturnering, Copa Paraguay, tre gange, i 2018, 2019 og 2021.
På internationalt plan har River Plate Asunción deltaget i Copa Libertadores seks gange, men har endnu ikke nået finalen. Klubben har også deltaget i Copa Sudamericana ti gange, og nåede finalen i 2013, men tabte til Lanús.
River Plate Asunción er kendt for sin ungdomsafdeling, som har fostret mange talentfulde spillere, herunder Julio Dos Santos, Edgar Barreto og Roque Santa Cruz.
